Jubilee Decorating Group
Each centre featured on our website is run by an independent community association comprising of local volunteers who are driven by their dedication and commitment to the community.
Centre volunteers are responsible for all the day to day activities of running the building to offer the public a safe, friendly and welcoming venue for social, recreational and educational activities at affordable prices. Each centre is also available for private hire.
Whilst the centres are owned by Norwich City Council who maintains the fabric of the building; it is the volunteers who work hard to ensure their centre is vibrant and remains sustainable.
If you would like to hire a room or run an activity please contact the individual centre concerned to discuss availability and costs. Equally if you are interested in volunteering for your local centre and making a difference to your community; please contact the centre, they would be delighted to hear from you.
Star awards
Over the past 18 months or so the council has been working alongside community centre volunteers, delivering training and introducing new methods of support to help associations with managing and running the centres. It’s no easy task making sure a centre is run in a way that conforms to current legislation and guidance – such as fire, food safety and safeguarding children – to make sure the community is not only offered good quality facilities, but ones that are as safe as possible. Yet our community associations do a remarkable job.
In recognition of the level of hard work volunteers do in managing excellent centres, the council has introduced the community centre star awards.
What do the stars mean?
1 Star The community association runs the community centre safely, meeting all legal requirements.
2 Stars The community association manages the centre well, meeting all legal requirements and some of the standards expected by the council.
3 Stars The community association manages the centre in a good way, meeting all of the standards expected of them by the council.
4 Stars The community association manages the centre in an excellent way, exceeding the standards expected of them by the council.
5 Stars The community centre is managed in an outstanding way, with measures in place to enhance users experience of the centre.
